Nissan launches third-gen Leaf at Sunderland with £450M investment, boosting UK EV production and jobs.
Nissan has begun producing the third-generation Leaf at its Sunderland plant, backed by a £450 million investment, the largest automotive investment in the UK since the post-war era.
The upgrade, including £300 million in direct UK spending, supports the production of a new Leaf with up to 386 miles of range and eligibility for the £3,750 government grant.
The project, part of the government’s DRIVE35 programme, strengthens the UK’s EV manufacturing leadership, creates jobs, and supports a nearby 12 GWh gigafactory by AESC.
The Sunderland site, employing 6,000, has built over 282,000 Leafs and aims to secure future EV production, including potential replacements for the Qashqai and Juke.
