The Nationals and Red Sox swapped pitching prospects Bennett and Perales in a one-for-one trade.
The Washington Nationals and Boston Red Sox completed a one-for-one trade, exchanging pitching prospects Jake Bennett and Luis Perales.
Bennett, a 25-year-old left-hander with a 2.27 ERA and strong command, was added to Washington’s 40-man roster to avoid the Rule 5 Draft.
Perales, a 22-year-old right-hander from Venezuela, possesses elite fastball velocity but has struggled with control and missed most of 2025 after Tommy John surgery.
The deal follows a regime change in Washington, where new president Paul Toboni, a former Red Sox assistant GM, favored Perales’ high-upside arm.
Boston acquired Bennett for his durability and safer profile, while Washington took a risk on Perales’ potential.
The trade was reported by Jeff Passan of ESPN.
