India honors Lt. Arun Khetarpal's bravery on Balidan Diwas, 1971 war martyr who earned the Param Vir Chakra.
On December 16, 2025, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh honored Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal on his 'Balidan Diwas', commemorating the 1971 Indo-Pak war martyr who was posthumously awarded India’s highest military honor, the Param Vir Chakra.
Born in Pune in 1950 to a military family, Khetarpal joined the National Defence Academy in 1967.
During a Pakistani armored counterattack near Jarpal on December 16, 1971, he led his tank crew despite being in a different squadron, destroying multiple enemy tanks and sustaining fatal injuries after his vehicle caught fire.
His actions halted a key enemy advance.
Singh praised his courage and devotion to duty as a timeless inspiration.
