India celebrates 100 years of its Defence Estates Department with awards and digital advancements.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will lead celebrations on December 16, 2025, marking the 100th anniversary of India’s Defence Estates Department, formally established in 1926 though rooted in a 1765 cantonment in Barrackpore.
The event at Delhi’s Raksha Sampada Bhawan will feature the Raksha Mantri Awards for excellence across 61 cantonment boards.
The department, managing the largest landholding under the Ministry of Defence, has modernized operations through digital initiatives like E-Chhawani, which provides full online municipal services to 20 lakh residents, digitized land records, a centralized Raksha Bhoomi platform, and advanced surveying using GPS, GIS, satellite imagery, and AI.
It has earned national recognition for water conservation with the National Water Award.
