Hindu group demands FIR against MLA for building mosque on anniversary of Ayodhya demolition.
The Vishva Hindu Parishad has urged West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to file an FIR against suspended TMC MLA Humayun Kabir for laying a mosque’s foundation stone on December 6, 2025, in Murshidabad, naming it Babri Masjid.
The VHP claims the act, timed to coincide with the 33rd anniversary of the Ayodhya mosque’s demolition and referencing Mughal emperor Babur—a figure seen by many Hindus as a religious invader—deliberately provokes Hindu sentiments and violates sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Kabir defended the project as constitutionally permissible, citing a 300-crore budget for a mosque with a hospital and other facilities, and reaffirmed its construction despite political fallout.
The state government has not yet responded.
