Ghana completed a three-year IFC green building program, now leading West Africa in certified eco-friendly construction.
The International Finance Corporation (IFC) has completed its three-year Designing for Greater Efficiency (DfGE) programme in Ghana, supported by Switzerland’s SECO.
The initiative integrated green building training into academic institutions, certified over 30 trainers, and educated 254 students and professionals, including 67 women.
Over 870 participants engaged in workshops and zero-carbon design competitions.
Ghana now leads West Africa with more than 1 million square meters of EDGE-certified green building space and 81 certified projects across sectors.
The updated online course remains available to sustain impact.
Officials highlight the programme’s success in advancing climate literacy, technical capacity, and Ghana’s shift toward low-carbon, resource-efficient construction.
