Lynne Marie Geoghegan, a former accounts clerk from Blackbutt, was sentenced to six and a half years in prison for embezzling nearly $2.5 million from Shellharbour Roofing Services over nearly nine years. The fraud, uncovered in March 2024 after a bank flagged suspicious transfers, involved 108 fake invoices and fraudulent payments totaling $2.46 million, with the largest single transfer $42,000 in 2018. Geoghegan, who pleaded guilty, offered reparation through her family home sale, but the business still lost over $2 million. Judge Andrew Haesler acknowledged her remorse and mental health struggles but emphasized the severe betrayal, imposing a four-year non-parole period. She could become eligible for parole in March 2029, with civil litigation still pending.
