Connor Bedard, NHL's top rookie scorer, sidelined with upper-body injury after faceoff incident.
Chicago Blackhawks star center Connor Bedard, a top scorer with 19 goals and 25 assists in 31 games, has been placed on injured reserve with an upper-body injury sustained during a faceoff late in a loss to the St. Louis Blues on December 12.
The 20-year-old, who leads the NHL in scoring among rookies, will miss at least several weeks, including the team’s upcoming road trip, and is unlikely to be available for Team Canada’s 2026 Winter Olympics roster.
Coach Jeff Blashill called the incident a "freak accident" with no intent to injure, noting Bedard is not undergoing surgery but will be re-evaluated after the New Year.
The Blackhawks recalled defenseman Ethan Del Mastro and goaltender Laurent Brossoit from their AHL affiliate, while rookie Nick Lardis made his NHL debut.
