flag The Black Hawk Bridge will be imploded to make way for a new bridge.

The Black Hawk Bridge spanning the Mississippi River between Lansing, Iowa, and De Soto, Wisconsin, will be demolished on Friday, December 19, 2025, at 9:30 a.m., with a backup date of Saturday, December 20. The implosion, part of a $165 million project, will be livestreamed at iowadot.gov/lansingbridge with no audio. A 1,000-foot river restricted zone will be enforced, closing roads, ferry services, and boat landings. Drones are banned, and residents in the area will receive safety guidance. A second, smaller implosion will follow later that day. Train service will halt for about four hours. The new bridge is expected to open in 2027.
