Mars Canada revived Toronto’s holiday windows with a whimsical Mars-themed display, inspired by HBC’s closure, featuring animatronic elves and a charity drive.
In December 2025, Mars Canada revived Toronto’s iconic holiday window tradition by transforming the vacant Hudson’s Bay storefront on Yonge Street into “Wonders of Mars,” a seven-window animated display running through January 2, 2026.
Inspired by employee nostalgia and public sentiment after HBC’s closure, the project used animatronics, lighting, and creative storytelling to depict a whimsical day in the life of Mars elves.
Veteran designer Ana Fernandes, who led HBC’s displays for two decades, returned to help create the spectacle, completed in under a month.
The display, supported by landlord Cadillac Fairview, also includes a donation initiative for Food Banks Canada.
Mars has not committed to continuing the tradition beyond 2025.
