Indonesia launches farmer-trader train with low fares and expands digital boarding ahead of holiday rush.
PT Kereta Api Indonesia launched the Farmer-Trader Train on the Merak–Rangkasbitung line on 1 December 2025, offering dedicated cargo space for agricultural goods and small merchandise at a flat fare of Rp3,000 per user for up to two units.
The service, part of a government-funded public obligation, runs on 14 daily trains with 11 stops and features modified interiors for safe freight integration.
Simultaneously, KAI expanded its facial recognition boarding system to 22 stations, recording 9.29 million uses from January to October 2025, saving 23,245 rolls of paper and Rp341 million.
Ahead of the 2025–2026 holiday peak, KAI is offering 30% discounts on 156 services and adding 26 extra economy trains, providing 1.5 million discounted seats from 22 December to 10 January.
