Congress MP Manickam Tagore has moved an adjournment motion in India's Lok Sabha, demanding urgent parliamentary debate on Delhi-NCR's hazardous air quality, with the Air Quality Index reaching 461—classified as "Severe Plus."
He cited a 25% rise in respiratory cases, particularly among vulnerable groups, and blamed poor road maintenance, waste accumulation, open burning, and ineffective government action.
Tagore called for a national public health emergency declaration and requested the Leader of the Opposition be allowed to speak.
A similar motion was filed by MP Amar Singh.
The Speaker’s decision on admitting the motion will determine next steps.
