Ghana has had no jail convictions for corruption alone, harming business and trust, experts say.
Mary Awelana Adda, Executive Director of Transparency International Ghana, warned that Ghana has seen zero jail convictions for standalone corruption offences, severely damaging investor confidence and the business climate.
Speaking at the 2025 International Anti-Corruption Day conference, she cited outdated laws, weak enforcement, and prosecutorial challenges as key barriers to accountability.
She urged passage of the COPPA and Corrupt Offences bills to strengthen ethics and legal frameworks, cautioned against abolishing the Office of the Special Prosecutor, and highlighted growing youth disillusionment and emigration due to a culture of impunity.
