A Brown University student, wounded in the 2019 Saugus shooting, survived another school shooting in 2025.

Mia Tretta, a 21-year-old Brown University student wounded in the 2019 Saugus High School shooting, survived a second school shooting on December 13, 2025, when two people were killed and nine injured at Brown. Originally planning to study in the Barus and Holley building, she changed her location due to fatigue. Tretta and another student, Zoe Weissman, who survived the 2018 Parkland shooting, described profound trauma, panic, and a shattered sense of safety from experiencing gun violence twice. Both expressed disbelief that such tragedies could recur, challenging the notion that school shootings are rare or avoidable.
