Two Punjab women became Indian Air Force Flying Officers after training at a girls' defense prep institute.
Two women from Punjab, Charanpreet Kaur and Mehak Dahiya, were commissioned as Flying Officers in the Indian Air Force after graduating from the Air Force Academy in Dundigal, Hyderabad, in a ceremony reviewed by Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan.
Both are graduates of the Mai Bhago Armed Forces Preparatory Institute for Girls in Mohali, where they trained before commissioning.
Kaur, daughter of a driver from Kurali, joined the Administrative Branch, while Dahiya, daughter of a government teacher, was assigned to the Accounts Branch.
Their achievement was celebrated by Punjab’s Minister Aman Arora and institute officials, highlighting the state’s efforts to expand opportunities for women in defense through initiatives like the NDA Preparatory Wing for Girls and the November 2025 inauguration of a block named after Field Marshal SHFJ Manekshaw.
