NSW police arrested 50 people, seized weapons, and charged 1,080 in Christmas retail crime crackdown.
NSW Police conducted a two-day operation in Sydney’s CBD and Liverpool, charging 50 people and seizing five weapons during a crackdown on retail crime ahead of Christmas.
Part of Operation Percentile, launched in August 2024, the effort has now led to 1,080 charges and recovery of stock valued at $960,500.
Officers made 14 drug detections and issued 74 move-on directions and 49 infringements.
Charges included shoplifting, assault, and possession of stolen goods, with notable cases involving a man accused of stealing and assaulting staff and a woman found with 98 stolen items.
Police and officials stressed that retail crime and violence against workers will not be tolerated.
