A man jailed for harassing a pregnant Turkish café owner after drug-related release.
A 28-year-old Ulverston man, Anthony Reilly, was jailed for nine weeks after pleading guilty to racially and religiously aggravated harassment following an incident at a Barrow café the day after his release from a 63-month prison sentence for drug trafficking.
The victim, a nine-month-pregnant Turkish-origin café owner, said the abuse deeply affected her mental health and childbirth.
Reilly claimed he was reacting to a TV program and misunderstood the conversation due to accent issues, but magistrates found the victim vulnerable and unable to escape.
Other cases in South Cumbria included jail terms for assault, child neglect, drug possession, and illegal dumping, with sentences ranging from immediate imprisonment to suspended terms.
