India's education panel backs HIAL’s recognition, citing its innovative, policy-aligned learning model despite ongoing challenges.
A parliamentary panel has recommended that India’s University Grants Commission grant formal recognition to the Himalayan Institute of Alternatives Ladakh, praising its experiential learning model and alignment with the National Education Policy 2020.
The Standing Committee on Education, led by Congress MP Digvijaya Singh, highlighted the institute’s community engagement and innovative projects like ice stupas, urging the Ministry of Education to study its model for national replication.
The recommendation comes amid ongoing challenges, including the cancellation of HIAL’s land allotment and FCRA registration, and the detention of founder Sonam Wangchuk in September 2025 following protests in Ladakh.
El panel de educación de la India respalda el reconocimiento de HIAL, citando su modelo de aprendizaje innovador y alineado con las políticas a pesar de los desafíos en curso.
