Gregory Wash pleaded guilty to assaulting a man he wrongly accused of pushing his son off a scooter.

Gregory Wash, 43, of Witham, admitted to assaulting Martin Thompson in July after wrongly believing Thompson pushed his 13-year-old son off a scooter while filming rowdy youths. Wash, a former scaffolder, punched Thompson multiple times, causing head, chest, and chin injuries, a head cut, and broken glasses. The attack ended when neighbors intervened. He pleaded guilty to actual bodily harm and criminal damage, acknowledging he took the law into his own hands. His wife had asked Thompson not to film the youths. A probation report is being prepared ahead of sentencing on January 28, 2026, when Wash could face prison.
