Elderly baker sees surge in fruitcake demand, doubling production for 2026.
Jim Hadfield, a 74-year-old baker from Saskatchewan, is seeing record demand for his handmade fruitcakes, with over 700 orders for 2025—far exceeding his initial expectations.
Since launching his Facebook page six years ago, he’s built a loyal following, now shipping cakes nationwide, including remote areas.
His cakes, marinated in rum or liqueur and basted weekly for six weeks, are praised for their rich flavor and long shelf life.
He plans to double production to 32 cakes daily for 2026 and will open orders in April, closing in June.
Despite his age, Hadfield continues to enjoy baking, though he’s uncertain how long he can sustain the pace.
