Zachery Shropshire, 36, was sentenced to 45 years in prison in December 2025 for a 2022 shooting at a Phoenix apartment complex where he killed construction worker Alvaro Briceno Quezada and injured seven others.
On March 10, 2022, armed with a rifle and handgun, Shropshire opened fire on workers during a lunch cleanup, fatally shooting Quezada after initially wounding him.
He fired about 24 rounds, injured another worker with shrapnel, and fled in his car, crashing and later being arrested in an alley.
A jury had previously convicted him of second-degree murder, seven counts of aggravated assault, two counts of disorderly conduct, and one count of leaving the scene of an accident.
Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell called the attack senseless and emphasized accountability for the victims and Quezada’s family.
