UN-backed project boosts sorghum harvest in Sudan, aiding 16,000 farmers and 200,000 people.
A bumper sorghum harvest in eastern Sudan’s Kassala State has brought hope to war-affected farmers, with yields significantly improved through UN World Food Programme support.
The THABAT project provided seeds, fertilizers, and training to 16,000 farmers, cultivating nearly 18,500 hectares and indirectly benefiting 200,000 people.
The success aligns with Sudan’s national focus on sorghum under a UN-backed initiative.
Despite ongoing food insecurity for 24.6 million people, the harvest shows that targeted aid can strengthen resilience and support recovery in conflict zones.
