Patrick Doran, a Leitrim diver, died of heart disease during a June 2024 dive off Ireland’s coast, unrelated to equipment or diving conditions.
Patrick Doran, a diver from Leitrim, died in June 2024 during a diving event off Ireland’s Donegal coast from a heart attack caused by severe coronary artery disease, an inquest found.
He was one of over 100 divers at the event when he collapsed at Teelin Pier and was pronounced dead despite resuscitation efforts.
Equipment was cleared of faults, and the coroner ruled the dive unrelated to his death, noting he likely would have died under other circumstances.
Another diver was treated for decompression sickness.
This marked the third fatal diving incident in the area within six weeks.
The coroner and police offered condolences to Doran’s family.
