Over 300 Vanuatu hospital workers ended a strike demanding earthquake risk pay, after government pledged $90M in payments.

Over 300 hospital staff in Port Vila, Vanuatu, returned to work after a strike over unpaid earthquake risk allowances, following an emergency meeting involving Prime Minister Jotham Napat and government officials. Workers had demanded a pay increase from VT$27,000 to VT$300,000, citing delays by the Public Service Commission nearly a year after a deadly earthquake killed 14 and injured 265. The government confirmed over VT$90 million had been allocated for payments, with assurances all allowances would be processed by Friday. The walkout disrupted critical health services ahead of the disaster’s one-year anniversary.
