A New Jersey man was charged for posing as a federal officer using his wife’s DHS car, armed and with lights on, during a 2025 incident.

A New Jersey man, Nicholas M. Cabral, was charged with impersonating a law enforcement officer after using his wife’s marked U.S. Department of Homeland Security vehicle—while she was on a 20-day deployment—to respond to a police call in Washington Township on December 10, 2025. Cabral, who was armed and claimed federal officer status, arrived with emergency lights activated, visited a Wendy’s, and was later identified as not being a law enforcement officer. He was arrested, charged with impersonating a police officer and unlawful weapon possession, and released after his firearm and the vehicle were seized. Authorities emphasized the risks to public and officer safety, and are urging witnesses to come forward.
