Indian tax authorities warn of rising scams targeting seniors via fake emails and sites; urge caution and report phishing.
The Indian Income Tax Department has warned taxpayers, especially senior citizens, about a rise in fake emails, SMS, and websites impersonating tax authorities to steal personal and financial data.
It stressed it never requests sensitive information like PAN numbers, passwords, or OTPs via email, SMS, or phone.
Taxpayers should only use the official portal, https://www.incometax.gov.in, and avoid suspicious links or domains with slight spelling changes.
Report phishing attempts to webmanager@incometax.gov.in with a copy to incident@cert-in.org.in, and contact the helpdesk at 1800 103 0025 or 080 46122000 for assistance.
The campaign urges vigilance, caution, and sharing the advisory to protect others.
