India’s cabinet cleared the Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhikshan Bill to merge higher-education oversight under one regulator, scrapping the UGC, AICTE, and NCTE to cut red tape and tighten academic standards. Medical and law colleges stay out, funding control remains with ministries, and the NEP-2020–aligned bill heads to Parliament this winter.
