A fire on the USS Bataan in Norfolk was contained by firefighters, with no serious injuries reported.
A fire broke out Saturday morning on the USS Bataan, a Wasp-class amphibious assault ship docked at Norfolk’s shipyard, prompting a response from Norfolk Fire-Rescue.
Firefighters arrived at 8:50 a.m., initially thought the blaze was on an exterior catwalk but found it had spread inside near the ship’s gym.
Ship personnel helped contain the fire, which was under control by 9:57 a.m. No injuries required transport, though two crew members were evaluated and declined treatment.
The cause remains unknown.
