Elliott Nowden sentenced to life in prison for stabbing and robbing a 67-year-old woman on a Metro train in April 2024.
Elliott Tramel Nowden, 47, was sentenced to life in prison without parole on December 12, 2025, for the first-degree murder and robbery of 67-year-old Mirna Soza Arauz on a Metro B Line train in Studio City on April 22, 2024.
The attack, captured on surveillance video, occurred as the train approached Universal/Studio City Station, where Nowden stabbed Soza Arauz with two knives during a robbery attempt, stealing only a bag of chili cheese fries.
She died after exiting the train.
Nowden, who had a prior 2019 conviction for a similar stabbing on a Metro train while on probation, was arrested 20 minutes later.
The judge added eight years for robbery.
The victim’s family spoke at sentencing, expressing grief and calling for justice.
Nowden’s defense cited methamphetamine use, but the jury found him mentally competent.
A court-ordered review of his mental state was paused in July 2024.
