Eighteen-year-old Sam Laverdiere, a former Lake Region High standout from Litchfield, Maine, will compete in the Brooks Cross Country National Championship in San Diego after winning the Northeast regional title in a photo finish with a time of 14:59.9.
Representing the Portland-based Valor Track Club, Laverdiere, who is homeschooled, has dominated the 2024-25 season, sweeping major cross country and track events, including distance triples indoors and outdoors.
He trained at altitude in Flagstaff, Arizona, and has competed against elite runners, earning wins and top-five finishes.
While colleges including Princeton, Dartmouth, and Notre Dame have shown interest, Laverdiere is focused on achieving a top-five finish and contending for a national title.
