A 40-year-old Dublin chef, Lin Yan, was sentenced to three years in prison for possessing over €571,000 worth of cannabis, following a customs alert and undercover operation.
The drugs were hidden in a pallet of Chinese takeaway supplies delivered to his home.
Yan, originally from China and with limited English, had no prior record and was described as cooperative and exploited, acting at the lowest level of a drug operation.
Judge Orla Crowe waived the mandatory 10-year sentence, citing mitigating factors including his guilty plea, lack of addiction, and exceptional circumstances, and imposed a three-year term backdated to his arrest.
He is permitted to remain in Ireland after release.
