Brazilian immigrant detained without warrant, held 26 days, released on bond after losing DACA; son remains separated.
Bruna Ferreira, a Brazilian immigrant and relative of White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, says she hasn’t seen her 11-year-old son since being detained by ICE in November near Boston while driving to pick up him from school.
She was taken into custody without a warrant, held for 26 days across four states, and released on a $1,500 bond after an immigration court hearing.
Ferreira, a former DACA recipient who ran two businesses and paid taxes, says she was unable to contact her son during detention and criticized the government’s characterization of her as a “criminal illegal alien,” calling it a “false character assassination.” Her attorney disputes the label, noting she lost DACA status and was pursuing legal residency.
The case has drawn attention due to her family ties to Leavitt, though no official statements have been released.
Ferreira remains under mandatory ICE check-ins.
