Arlington Pride 2026 is canceled after the city suspended LGBTQ protections over federal funding fears.
Arlington Pride 2026 has been canceled after the city council voted 5-4 to indefinitely suspend a local LGBTQ nondiscrimination ordinance, citing fears of losing $65 million in federal funding under President Trump’s executive order targeting diversity initiatives.
The ordinance, which protected LGBTQ+ individuals in housing, employment, and public accommodations, had been suspended in September.
Organizers, led by the HELP Center, said they cannot ensure the event’s safety and inclusivity without such protections.
The decision marks one of the first instances in the U.S. of a city repealing LGBTQ protections over federal funding concerns.
Despite no formal city partnership, Mayor Jim Ross expressed support for LGBTQ communities and called for dialogue.
The event, which drew over 15,000 attendees in 2025 and generated $8 million for the local economy, will not return until protections are reinstated.
