A 14-year-old boy was shot in the abdomen during a teen gathering in North Philadelphia, likely due to mishandled gunfire, and the shooter fled, police say.
A 14-year-old boy sustained an abdominal gunshot wound in a possible accidental shooting Thursday evening at a North Philadelphia home, police said. The incident occurred around 6 p.m. at a residence on the 1500 block of North 17th Street during a gathering of at least 15 teens, where a firearm discharged, likely due to mishandling. The shooter, also around 14, fled the scene and remains at large, believed to be known to the victim and witnesses. The injured teen, who does not live at the home but frequently visits, was taken to St. Christopher’s Hospital in stable condition. A spent shell casing was recovered, and police are searching for the weapon and reviewing surveillance footage. Authorities are urging the shooter or anyone with information to come forward.
