The 5th Midea HVAC contest awarded 305 projects, with Kuala Lumpur’s The Exchange 106 winning top honors for energy-efficient design.
The 5th Midea International HVAC Design Contest concluded on December 10, 2025, in Haikou, China, marking over two decades of advancing HVAC innovation.
Co-organized by the China Innovation Alliance for HVAC and Midea Building Technologies, the global competition received 1,000 submissions from around the world, with 589 advancing to the final round and 305 awards distributed from a RMB 1.1 million prize pool.
Projects highlighted integrated energy management across commercial, industrial, and transit sectors, with the Golden Pencil award going to Kuala Lumpur’s The Exchange 106, a 106-story tower achieving an energy intensity of 113 kWh/m²/year—exceeding its target—through high-efficiency systems and earning Green Building Index Gold Certification.
