Reality TV star Matt Wright sentenced to 10 months in prison for lying and pressuring pilot after 2022 crash killed co-star.
Reality TV star Matt Wright, 47, was sentenced to 10 months in prison for attempting to obstruct justice after a 2022 helicopter crash in Arnhem Land killed co-star Chris “Willow” Wilson and left pilot Sebastian Robinson paralyzed.
Wright was convicted on two counts—lying about fuel levels and pressuring Robinson to falsify flight records—though a third charge related to destroying maintenance records was not proven.
Acting Justice Alan Blow imposed a suspended sentence requiring five months in jail, a two-year good behaviour period, and a $5,000 fine, citing Wright’s callous actions while Robinson recovered from a coma and life-changing injuries.
Prosecutors said Wright feared the helicopter’s 2,200-hour operational limit had been exceeded, risking grounding.
While not accused of causing the crash, the court found he tried to hide maintenance and flight record discrepancies.
Wright’s defense team plans to appeal.
