A Peruvian man arrested in Massachusetts fled a crash that critically injured a woman; he was illegally in the U.S. and had a prior driving record.
A Peruvian man, Deyvis Diaz-Sanchez, was arrested in Everett, Massachusetts, on December 9, 2025, in connection with a hit-and-run crash that left a 63-year-old woman with a brain bleed and serious injuries.
He fled the scene in a vehicle that struck her in a crosswalk, sending her nearly 80 feet, and was later found at a nearby residence without a valid driver’s license.
Diaz-Sanchez, who entered the U.S. illegally in 2022, had a prior record for reckless driving and was released under the Biden administration’s “catch and release” policy.
ICE took him into custody the same day, citing his unlawful presence and public safety risk.
Authorities are investigating the incident, which involved surveillance footage and physical evidence like a sneaker and shopping cart near the impact site.
The victim remains hospitalized.
