Bloyce Thompson, the deputy premier since 2023, has been selected by the party caucus and executive to serve as interim leader.
Lantz, who had been interim premier since February 2025, previously stated he would not seek the role but changed his mind, citing the need for stable, unified leadership.
The party’s constitution allows interim leaders to run if they resign within 10 days of a convention being called.
The leadership contest now includes Lantz and lawyer Mark Ledwell, who announced his candidacy in May.
