Pakistan's military chief gains rare backing from banned militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba amid rising border tensions with Afghanistan.
Pakistan's military chief Gen. Asim Munir has received public support from Lashkar-e-Taiba, a banned militant group, following his appointment as chief of the country's tri-services.
In a video message, LeT leader Qari Yaqoob Sheikh endorsed Munir, warned Afghanistan against allowing its territory to be used for attacks on Pakistan, and called for a joint religious decree affirming Afghan soil must not be used for terrorism.
The endorsement comes amid heightened border tensions, including a deadly clash that killed five Afghan civilians, with both sides blaming each other for breaking a fragile ceasefire.
Afghanistan accuses Pakistan of using civilians and facilitating militant activity, while India has accused Pakistan of using trade routes to destabilize the region.
