North Wales Police Chief Amanda Blakeman will temporarily step down Jan. 15, 2026, to protect her pension, returning Jan. 17.
North Wales Police Chief Constable Amanda Blakeman plans to temporarily resign for one day on January 15, 2026, to preserve her pension’s maximum value under the national Retire and Rehire Scheme.
She will return to her role on January 17, with Deputy Chief Constable Nigel Harrison serving as acting chief.
The move, pending approval from the Police and Crime Panel on December 15, is legal and designed to prevent her pension from decreasing after 30 years of service.
The Police and Crime Commissioner supports the plan, which ensures no disruption to operations and follows a similar action taken by a West Midlands Police chief in 2024.
