Nigeria's FCCPC sealed Ikeja Electric's HQ over failure to split accounts despite two-year power cutoffs for a paying customer.
The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission sealed Ikeja Electric’s Lagos headquarters after the utility failed to comply with a 2024 NERC directive to split a single account into 20 residential units, leaving a complainant without power for over two years despite full bill payments.
The FCCPC said the action, taken after repeated warnings including a October 2025 compliance notice, was a proportionate enforcement step under the FCCPA 2018 and will remain until proof of compliance is provided.
Ikeja Electric expressed surprise, citing ongoing talks and concerns over service disruptions, while consumer advocates supported the move as a necessary push for accountability in Nigeria’s power sector.
