A man was charged after an assault during a protest over a government-ordered ostrich cull in British Columbia.

A 60-year-old Ontario man has been charged with assault, assault with a weapon, and mischief after an incident on September 22, 2025, near Universal Ostrich Farm in Edgewood, British Columbia. The alleged attack occurred during a protest against the culling of over 300 ostriches by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency on November 6, 2025, due to an avian flu outbreak. RCMP responded after a 73-year-old woman was injured and arrested the suspect without incident. The cull followed months of legal challenges by the farm’s owners and was conducted under a court-issued warrant. The man, linked to protest efforts, is scheduled to appear in court next month.
