Malaysia launches Southeast Asia’s largest battery storage system to boost renewable energy and grid stability.
Malaysia has launched the 100MW/400MWh BESS Lahad Datu in Sabah, the largest battery storage system in Southeast Asia by capacity, to boost grid stability and support renewable energy.
Developed by MSR-Green Energy and powered by China’s Sungrow, the facility reduces diesel dependence and aids Sabah’s energy transition under the SE-RAMP 2040 plan.
The state is also advancing its first utility-scale wind project, part of a broader push to meet rising electricity demand and expand clean energy infrastructure.
