flag FDA approves first treatment for cattle fever ticks in U.S., for non-lactating cattle only.

The FDA has conditionally approved Exzolt Cattle-CA1, a topical fluralaner solution, for beef cattle and replacement dairy heifers over two months old to treat and prevent New World screwworm and control cattle fever ticks. This is the first FDA-approved treatment for cattle fever ticks in the U.S., with a 98-day slaughter withdrawal period and use restricted to non-lactating cattle. The drug, available by prescription, is applied as a single strip and is part of a broader parasite management strategy. The approval, granted under the PZAD program, allows up to five years for additional data to support full approval.
