Culver City schools launch free fentanyl test strip program for students and families to prevent overdoses.
The Culver City Unified School District has launched a pilot program to distribute free fentanyl test strips to students and families, becoming one of the first in the region to implement such a harm-reduction effort.
Approved unanimously by the school board, the initiative aims to prevent accidental overdoses by helping detect fentanyl in substances, particularly among young adults aged 18 to 45.
The program, developed with Defense Diagnostic Inc.’s DEFENT division, is part of a broader safety strategy including Narcan availability, mental health support, and substance misuse education.
Distribution details and educational materials will be shared with families soon, and the district will monitor the program’s effectiveness through feedback and data collection.
