A controlled burn at Chattanooga’s Heritage Park on Dec. 12 aims to restore native plants and reduce flooding.
A prescribed burn is set for Friday, December 12, from 12 to 4 p.m. at Heritage Park in Chattanooga, led by the city’s Parks and Outdoors team and the Southeastern Grasslands Institute.
The half-acre burn aims to improve ecosystem health by controlling invasive vegetation and promoting native grasses and wildflowers.
The Dog Park and surrounding areas will close at 11 a.m. and reopen after 4 p.m.
Smoke may be visible but is expected to be brief and dissipate quickly.
The effort supports long-term ecological restoration and flood mitigation.
