Wiltshire expands EV charging with 2,000 new chargers over 15 years, backed by £14M in funding.
Electric vehicle adoption is growing in Wiltshire due to better technology, more model choices, and increased consumer confidence, with Kia’s EV6 and EV9 leading the way.
Despite about 450 public chargers, the county’s density of 95 per 100,000 residents trails the UK average.
To close the gap, Wiltshire Council is launching a 15-year plan backed by over £4 million in government funding and £10 million in public-private investment to install more than 2,000 new chargers, including overnight and rapid options in urban and rural areas, with 25 rural sites identified.
The council is also deploying vehicle-to-grid chargers to cut energy costs and support its fleet of over 100 EVs.
Experts recommend test drives to experience EV benefits like quiet operation and instant acceleration.
