The Wetaskiwin Health Foundation launched a $400,000 campaign to upgrade palliative care rooms at the Wetaskiwin and District Hospital and Care Centre, following a $100,000 donation from Mark and Frank Dyck at the Foundation’s November 29, 2025, Barn Dance.
The event helped raise $218,000 toward the goal, with additional contributions from other donors.
Executive director John Strong shared a personal story about his daughter’s end-of-life care to highlight the need for private, comfortable spaces.
The two existing palliative rooms, named after Cecil and Doris Colwell and established in 2006, require modern equipment and renovations expected to begin in 2026.
