Vermont has awarded nearly $50 million in federal disaster recovery grants to fund flood-resilient housing and infrastructure projects, primarily in Washington and Lamoille counties, following severe flooding in July 2023.
The funds support rebuilding nearly 200 homes, relocating shelters, restoring floodplains, and upgrading bridges, with projects required to be completed within six years.
Downstreet Housing & Community Development received $14.5 million for affordable housing, while Waterbury secured $2.3 million for flood mitigation and future housing development.
Additional $14.4 million in housing funds are available, with pre-applications due January 12.
