Sean Breen, 31, avoided prison for a 2019 one-punch assault in Buncrana that left Damian McFadden with serious head injuries, after donating €5,000 to a brain injury charity. Breen pleaded guilty to the attack outside the Atlantic Bar, captured on CCTV, where McFadden was knocked unconscious and hospitalized for nearly two weeks. Though McFadden died in 2022, the court found no link to the assault. Judge John Aylmer imposed a suspended two-and-a-half-year sentence, citing Breen’s donation, remorse, clean record since 2014, and personal circumstances, including a recent breakup and alcohol use. Breen had prior Northern Ireland convictions for assault and driving offenses.
